Your Liver is Absolutely Vital - Discover the Use of Milk Thistle For Liver Damage ProtectionOverview

The use of milk thistle for liver damage protection has been going on for over 2000 years. Both in Europe and the United States, the use of this botanical remains very popular. The active ingredient is called silymarin and is extracted from the seeds of the milk thistle plant. The following are some of the benefits that have been identified for milk thistle for liver damage protection:

Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis results from chronic liver disease often caused by alcoholism, hepatitis B and C and fatty liver disease. It also has other possible causes some of which are unknown. It is characterized by the replacement of liver tissue by fibrosis and scar tissue as the liver tries to repair the damage. Many European studies have shown the benefits of this plant for cirrhosis. Observations going over 5 years have shown improved liver function and decreased the number of deaths occurring in cirrhotic patients.

Chronic liver disease

Improvements in liver test results have been reported from several studies of oral administration of this botanical for hepatitis caused by viruses or alcohol.

Toxin-induced liver damage

There are good research results suggesting that this plant prevents and repairs damage from toxic chemicals and medications. Workers who had been exposed to toxic chemicals and given the extract were found to have better liver function tests than those given placebo. Also some psychotropic drugs damage the liver as a side effect. It was found that if patients also took milk thistle, then the hepatic damage was much less.

Mushroom poisoning

Several research studies has shown that severe liver damage in mushroom poisoning especially that caused by Amanita phalloides can be prevented when it is administered within 48 hours of eating the mushroom.

Recommendations

As the inevitable result of human development, we are constantly bombarded with poisons and chemicals from the environment. There are national and global efforts to clean up the environment and reduce industrial pollution but cases of industrial pollution and accidents are still being reported and not all countries follow the same standards.

One therefore needs to take action to protect ones liver from the possible damage that may come from industrial chemicals, the food that we eat or drugs that we have to take. The use of milk thistle for liver damage protection makes this botanical a good supplement to add to one’s tools for maintaining good health.

I much prefer a multi-pronged strategy where a product helps protect against a range of health challenges rather than just the one. The product that I have researched not only contains milk thistle extract, it also includes over 70 unique ingredients which sustain the brain, quench free radicals, protect vision, prevent inflammation and support other aspects of good health.
